Last week, hundreds of us came out to CUPE’s Ice Cream Truck Day to learn more about unionizing and strengthening our rights at work.
Ronni sent an anti-union email to all staff the day before. Instead of slowing things down, it sparked new conversations and new support.
For many of us, it was as simple as asking:
“Did you see Ronnie’s email? I didn’t realize we were the only non-union hospital left. What did you think?”
We were also joined by physicians, nurse practitioners, RNs, researchers, allied health professionals, and many other coworkers who support what we’re building.
Why We’re Organizing
This is a critical moment at SickKids.
Management has made it clear that changes are coming. While they say “no decisions have been made,” workers know that bringing in Deloitte to find “efficiencies” and “modernize” services often means increased workloads, hiring freezes, and layoffs.
That’s exactly why we’re organizing.
Who’s Included?
This campaign is intended to include a broad range of SickKids workers, including Clerks, Administrative Coordinators, Research Coordinators, Concierges, Project Coordinators, workers in Finance, IMT, Health Information Management, and many others
Our goal is to build the strongest possible union by bringing together as many workers as possible. While management may argue that some positions should be excluded, the final decision is made by the Labour Board —not SickKids.
That’s why broad support across the hospital matters. The more workers who stand together, the stronger our case for building a union that includes everyone who should be part of it.
Not sure whether your position is included? Call the organizing hotline at (289) 923-3534.

Fighting for Public Hospitals

Hospitals are being intentionally underfunded by the Ford government. Unionized hospital workers are leading the fight to protect public healthcare and healthcare workers. Last week, SickKids workers joined hundreds of healthcare workers from across the province to demand increased funding by the provincial government.
Remember
- Support for the union is confidential from hospital management
- Management cannot ask whether you signed a union card
- Management cannot retaliate against you for supporting a union
You can also find clear, truthful information about unionizing in our FAQ.
If you haven’t had a chance to sign your union card you can do so here. If you’ve already signed, please share the link with a coworker you trust and encourage them to learn more.
In solidarity,
Your friends and co-workers at SickKids
